Before I get into detail on the Vanity Vr10 by Jopen, I think it would be prudent to first discuss Jopen.
“Jopen is a company driven by the unrelenting desire to create sensual products for savvy toy consumers around the world. From the super high-end luxury brand Vanity, to every price point in-between, Jopen is a company driven by passion, and motivated to excel!”
However, did you know that Jopen is CalExotics in disguise? Does anyone else find this somewhat seedy? Perhaps I’ve just been jaded by previous experiences. It’s been a long time since I’ve reviewed a CalExotics toy, so I had high hopes that they would have improved by now.
First Impressions
Appearance: It’s so bright! Of all the pictures I’ve seen online, and the various computer screens I’ve seen them on, I’ve never seen the color of the Jopen Vanity line portrayed properly. I assumed that it would be a nice, gentle purple. What was in the box, however, was a very bright fuchsia-colored toy.
Packaging: The Vanity Vr10 came in a plain white box and was held in place with a white cardstock form. Included within the box are the vibe, charging base, power cord, a rather large black drawstring storage bag with the word JOPEN in white on it, the manual (which is also an advertisement of every Vanity vibe), and a piece of frosted vellum that lists pretty much every feature that the Vanity line has (No, the list isn’t specifically designed to highlight the features of the Vanity Vr10, just the Vanity line in general.)
Material
The Vanity Vr10 is made of premium silicone with a PU coated ABS plastic control base.
Compatible Lube: only use water-based lube
Is it the Advertised Material?
Upon removing the Vanity Vr10 from the packaging, I gave it a sniff. It definitely does have that odd smell that CalExotics’ “silicone” toys have, but it’s not as bad as previous toys I’ve had.
I decided to perform the flam test. Unlike other “silicone” toys I’ve had from CalExotics, this one doesn’t catch fire within a few seconds. The fuchsia-colored silicone turned a bit darker and then revealed white streaks. Figuring that only the very top layer of the silicone was colored, I went at it with the scissors and took a small chunk out of it. It is fuchsia all the way through, so I’m guess the white was just a chemical reaction in the silicone to the flame.
So, I can say that I’m more confident in this toy actually being silicone. However, I will admit that I put a condom over the shaft and loosely around the little bug attachment. (Yeah, I know it’s supposed to be a bunny. To hubby and me, it looks more like a bug. Either way, I think it’s cute.)
Firmness/Texture
The silicone of the Vanity Vr10 is fairly plush and squishy. Really, it has to be, given the fact that the shaft rotates.
It’s very smooth, but there are seams everywhere. One seam splits the shaft entirely. There are also seams on the bug’s antennae, head, down its back, and seams in the shape of a circle on each side of the head.
There are 3 ribs for g-spot stimulation, but they don’t do much for me.
Controls
The controls of the Vanity Vr10 are rather simple. There are only two buttons to worry about, and the instructions will tell you which one is which, since they aren’t labeled.
The toy came fully charged and locked to prevent it from turning itself on during travel. To unlock the toy, press and hold button 1 and button 2 simultaneously. LED lights will travel up each side and then light up all the LED lights. Your toy is now locked. To unlock, just repeat the process.
You can control the rotating shaft and vibrating bug attachment separately. Button 1 controls the rotating shaft, and Button 2 controls the vibrating bug attachment. Simply press and hold a button to turn on a function and increase the intensity. Push the same button to turn off the function. You can only go up in intensity. There is no way to decrease the intensity unless you turn it off and start from scratch.
Vibrations/Rotation
Vibrations: The vibrations of the Vanity Vr10 are very strong. In fact, they’re so strong, that they hurt my clit. I love strong vibes, but these vibes get too buzzy and strong way too quickly. I can deal with the lower levels, but turning the vibes up to the seventh level (highest level) of intensity make my clit beg for mercy.
Vibrations are created by bullets located in the shaft and bug attachment. They travel well all the way to the tip no matter what vibration level the toy is set to.
Rotation: I find the rotation of this toy somewhat pathetic. Even on the seventh level (highest level), I can barely feel it moving inside me. The entire top 4 1/2" of the shaft rotates clockwise. In my experience, the rotation is more noticeable on lubed-up labia, rather than inside me.
Below is a condensed version of the written review so you can see how this toy handles, sounds, etc.
Noise Level
The frosted vellum list says this toy is “Whisper Quiet”. Is that true? Not entirely. If you’re only going to use the rotating function, then it is actually pretty quiet. However, if you’re going to turn up the vibration, it sounds a bit like a jet taking off. It’s definitely louder than my cell phone, so make sure you have the door closed and some music on, if you don’t want anyone to know you’re using it.
Charging
“Discreet Designer, ‘No Metal Contacts’ Recharging Station”
I just love the fact that CalExotics felt the need to put there. Yes, the charging base is discreet… when nothing is in it! Once you put that rabbit-style vibrator in the charging base, that completely wipes away any discreet qualities it had.
<sarcasm> And the charger is included? Wow, CalExotics, thanks! After shelling out over a hundred bucks for this thing, I was afraid I’d have to find a charger on my own!</sarcasm>
Why do they put that on their product picture when it’s only good business to include the charger with the toy? Does CalExotics want us to think they’re doing us a favor?
To charge the Vanity Vr10, plug the power cord into the charging base and plug the power cord into a 110/240 Volt power source. (I have no idea what voltage our outlets are. Oh well.) Set the toy in the base. The red LEDs will flash to let you know that it’s charging. They will stop flashing, when the toy is fully charged. A 4 hour initial charge time is required, but I’m not sure if that’s already been done since the toy came to me fully charged.
Cleaning
Wash the Vanity Vr10 with a mild soap and water or a toy cleaner. This toy is water-proof, so you don’t have to be super careful.
Storage
The Vanity Vr10 can be stored in the rather large storage bag it came with. I suppose you could try to cram the charging base and power cord in there, as well.
Rating: 2/5 CalExotics, you’re so vain thinking this toy could ever live up to luxury standards. For how much the Vanity Vr10 costs, I’d be disappointed, if I had bought it. The rotation, the feature that I was looking forward to the most, just didn’t live up to my expectations. Don’t get me started on how that little bug nearly buzzed my clit off.
Also, a toy this expensive shouldn’t have seams running all over it. Although they’re soft and not that noticeable, this is supposed to be a higher-end vibe. This the lack of quality I would expect from a normal CalExotics toy.
The limited controls may also annoy some. I have turned it up too high and wished to be able to turn it down, but there’s no way to do that without turning it off and starting over. Plus, I don’t like the fact that they’re advertising the Vanity line under a different company name. Why are they hiding? This is definitely a step up from previous CalExotics toys that I’ve reviewed, but they still have some work to do.
Since I was given the Vanity Vr10 as a tester assignment, Babeland does not carry it right now. They may or may not in the future For now, you can check out the rest of their selection of toys from the Vanity line.
Vanity Vr.6 | Vanity Vr.3 | Vanity Vr.9 |
Or, you could check out rabbit vibrators at Babeland from other manufacturers like Fun Factory or LELO. (Two manufacturers which I trust much more than CalExotics to be honest with their sex toy material info.)

When you cut through it, was it all the way, or just a chunk? I seem to recall another reviewer saying some of these had foam on the inside, which makes me pretty skeptical about them. On the other hand, as far as the rotations go, buzzvibe recently posted an update on this one, saying she received an email from the product designer informing her that the shaft is actually bendable, and that this increases the rotations. Her post on it is here: http://www.buzzonvibes.com/2011/06/follow-up-friday-jopen-vanity-vr10.html
It's interesting to note, at least.
So, I had tried to bend it earlier and it pretty much looked like it had stopped rotating. I've been messing with it more while studying buzzvibe's video a little closer and got it to work again. Unfortunately, it's not making the larger circles that hers does. It still barely moves. At this point, I'm wondering if A. I screwed it up trying to bend it too much, B. It's defective.
thanks for this review! I actually considered getting it bbut now i feel like I will just skip it. pretty pricey this one.
And i hate the color. Why do the jopen products only come in one color?
It's because Jopen is CalExotics in disguise, and CalExotics is just...well...horrible, in my opinion.
Seems like something that looked like a good option is really not worth spending time on - thanks for the review!
Pretty much. I'd pass on this one.
